As a small ‘niche’ dive company Back to Basics Adventures offers their clients a unique opportunity to explore the reefs of Ponta do Ouro in Southern Mozambique. All year round you can dive the subtropical reefs and during the summer months (November-April) the Advanced divers can do specialized shark dives. Apart for only catering for the qualified divers you can also learn how to scuba dive with Back to Basics Adventures. A NEW feature for 2023 is the Adventure Expeditons from Ponta do Ouro to Santa Maria/Inhaca. These expeditions focus on showcasing the different types of diving that is offered in the 80km of coastline named Maputo Special Reserve.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO DIVE MOZAMBIQUE?
Reef diving - All year Around
Shark Diving - November to April. This is the summer months in Southern Africa.
Humpback Whale Migration - July to November.
The Water Temperature during the summer months (November-April) is between 24-26°C and during the winter months (May-October) 21-23°C. Visibility changes very quickly and don’t have a specific season. Average visibility is around 15m and good visibility is around 30m, Southern Mozambique rarely have less then 10m visibility.
The owners of Back to Basics Adventures favors the month of May and October as it is the months where the seasonal changes takes place. The best shark diving is the month of December or March. the months of January and February can be tricky as it correlates with Cyclone Season. January and February often have large swell and its very warm and humid.
But sand isn't always boring. And in some places, sand diving offers a chance to observe some of the few pristine marine communities left in the ocean...
